Lenovo Vibe Z, the Chinese ThinkPad maker's latest flagship Android phone, is a new ultrafast Lenovo VIBE Z smartphone with 4G LTE. This is definitely a news. It is a high spec, top-of-the-notch smartphone with dual high resolution cameras, a fast and power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the 4G LTE connectivity, and a claimed 20/20 Vision Full HD display.
With a 5.5-inch, 1920 x 1080 IPS touch screen, this very thin (0.31 inches) smartphone weighs just 5.12 ounces. Lenovo used a polycarbonate plastic shell in either a silver or "titanium" black textured finish rather than metal to get this much light weight for a 5.5 inch phone.
The Vibe Z looks as if it is made of metal, but it's actually plastic all over. The anterior is almost all black with a silver lip on the bottom where the bottom edge wraps around. There's a silver Lenovo logo on topmost. Despite being such a large device, the power button is placed on top. The volume rocker is on the left edge, while the right is blank apart to be used for a SIM card tray. There's a standard headset port on top and Micro-USB port on the bottom.
Lenovo claims a 20/20 Vision to enjoy lively and pin-sharp images, gaming and video with the VIBE Z’s 5.5” 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution display. At more than 400 pixels per inch you can browse full-version websites, or relish and share hi-res images and video at their utter best.
The Vibe Z is easy to hold, though 5.5 inch screen may feel large. The screen is adequately crisp, but not particularly vivid. Colors are washed out in daylight even at the highest brightness setting. Its weight is just 121 g and its very easy to carry. Its laser-etched fabric-feel back cover also offers an easy grip and resistance to fingerprints and scratches, while its Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 display is as strong as they make.
Lenovo Vibe Z boasts of a Qualcomm® 2.2GHz Snapdragon™ 800 Processor. It ensures fast speed and smooth navigation. It is also power efficient and smoothly runs any combinations of pps, videos or 3D games.
On the OS side, Vibe Z runs on Android 4.3 Jelly . The common of Lenovo's exclusive features come in the form of software tweaks on top of Android 4.3, and there are lots of them. All app icons and widgets live on the home screens; that too in random locations. This can get unclear after a while, though the 16GB storage cap will limit how many app icons you have nevertheless. You can slide between screens openly, and long-tap on a blank space to pull up a screen that lets you rapidly trip between screens and add widgets.
A 13 MP high resolution rear camera is included with BSI sensor which can shoot a 1080 p HD video. Its performance is good even in low light conditions. The front camera is a 5 megapixel 84° wide angle lens for high quality self shots, plus video chat.
Lenovo has included a suite of features like photo filters, a collection of scene modes and the lots of settings on offer are fun to play around with and should make for interesting shares. Thus, the Vibe Z cameras' Beautify tool allows facelifts and cosmetic modifications to the snaps.
The other options include multiple metering modes, contrast saturation and sharpness, ISO and white balance adjustment, and a "super night mode". There's an HDR mode, panorama, picture-in-picture, burst, smile shot, macro mode, and self-timer. To add to it, there are also 24 effects ranging from a tilt-shift lens effect to a pop-art filter.
